What not to do ($100k mistakes)

The video for y'all this week is something that was equal parts therapeutic and terrifying.

It’s a video about my 10 biggest mistakes as a creator, not the cute, humble-brag ones everyone shares, but the real ones. The expensive ones. The ones that made me question whether I was cut out for this at all.

My cat Myra joins the video around two minutes in. She CANNOT help herself.

Anyways.

I’ve been seeking that elusive feeling of ā€œmaking itā€ as a creator for over a decade. And while there have been incredible moments of reward and achievement, I’ve also paid a LOT of ā€œdumb taxā€ along the way. I've made mistakes that have cost me hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Most creator struggles aren’t really about tactics or strategies. They’re about identity, self-worth, and the patterns we repeat when we don’t trust ourselves.

The pattern behind all patterns

After reflecting on every major mistake I’ve made, from perfectionism disguised as quality to treating my body like a machine, I noticed they all came from the same place. Not trusting that I was capable, valuable, or worthy of success.

I was so afraid of being ā€œfound outā€ as a fraud that I sabotaged myself before anyone else could.

The breakthrough came when I started documenting everything. Writing became my way of processing, understanding, and ultimately healing from the patterns that kept me stuck. And that writing has become the foundation of the content and products I create today.

Your struggles aren’t character flaws, they’re data. Every failure, every pattern, every repeated mistake is information about what’s not working. But you have to pay attention to collect that data.

What I want you to steal

Here’s my challenge from this video: Pick ONE mistake from the video that makes you go ā€œoh shit, that’s me.ā€

Don’t try to fix all ten, that would be repeating mistake #4 (saying yes to too much).

Then ask yourself:

1. How is this pattern currently costing me time, money, or peace of mind?

2. What would change if I addressed this ONE thing in the next 90 days?

3. What’s the smallest step I could take today to start breaking this pattern?

Write your answers down. Not in your head, on paper. Your brain is for having ideas, not storing them.

The person you become by solving these problems is exactly the person others need help from.

I hope this video helps you catch some mistakes you could be making!

Quote of the Week

ā€œEvery yes to something unimportant is a no to something that could change your life" - (Me, from the video above)

P.S. Eight years ago, I was so scattered I couldn’t finish a single project. Today, I get to help creators like you finish what they start. The difference wasn’t talent or luck, it was addressing these exact patterns. You don’t have to repeat my mistakes, but you do have to start. šŸ¤Ž

Accountability goes both ways. Two weeks ago. I’m scrolling through the Community, doing my Monday accountability check-ins with everyone. You know, being the good old community leader I’m supposed to be. Asking how their goals are going. Cheering people on. Feeling pretty good about myself. Then Pam drops this comment: ā€œSpeaking of accountability, where are those behind-the-scenes videos you promised us?ā€ BAM. SHE GOT ME. She was right. I’d been so busy holding everyone ELSE accountable that...

The gym with no mirrors (and why you’re quitting too early) I was at the gym and something hit me hard. A year ago, I was in this exact same place, tired and desperate, working on a business I’d just bought with no idea what I was doing, I didn’t have the body I wanted, the life I wanted, and I damn sure didn’t feel like the person I wanted to be. Today, I’m back in that same gym and although it FEELS like I’m starting the fitness journey over, everything has changed. I have amazing...

Today sucked. Have you ever had one of those days? The kind that starts wrong and keeps getting worse? For me, it began with terrible sleep. Weird dreams. The kind where you wake up more tired than when you went to bed. ā€œIt’s okay,ā€ I told myself at 9:30 AM (hours past when I should have gotten up). ā€œIt’ll still be a good day.ā€ I was lying to myself. Today was special. Not good special. The dangerous kind of special. It was what Jon Acuff in his book ā€œFinishā€ calls: ā€œThe Day After Perfect.ā€...
